The Department of Computer Science at Colorado State University (CSU) solicits applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of assistant professor, beginning fall 2014. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in computer science, bioinformatics, or a related field and demonstrate potential for excellence in research, teaching and service. Only candidates in bioinformatics/computational biology will be considered. In line with CSU’s interest in promoting diversity, preferred qualifications include demonstrated knowledge of and relevant ability with culturally diverse communities among potential target and constituent populations. This new position is part of a university-wide effort to recruit additional faculty in biosciences and bioinformatics.
The department has over 350 undergraduate majors and 165 graduate students in Master’s and Ph.D. programs. The department has 22 faculty with strong research programs in artificial intelligence, big data, bioinformatics, computer vision, human-computer interaction, networks, parallel and distributed computing, security, and software engineering. CSU is located in Fort Collins, 60 miles north of Denver, against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Requirements: The Department of Computer Science seeks applications from Ph.D. level researchers who are interested in obtaining temporary research positions at the Research Scientist/Scholar level. There are several levels of appointment.
Level I is for individuals generally within three years of receiving their Ph.D. and with limited scientific research experience.
Level II is analogous to the Assistant Professor title for regular faculty. It generally includes people with three to seven years of experience beyond the Ph.D. level and with very significant professional accomplishments.
Level III is analogous to the Associate Professor title for regular faculty. It generally includes individuals with more than seven years of experience beyond the Ph.D., and with extremely significant professional accomplishments.
The Senior level is analogous to the full Professor title for regular faculty. It generally includes individuals well beyond the Ph.D. that have demonstrated outstanding, sustained, and extraordinary professional accomplishments as well as professional leadership.
Ranking and qualifications within the levels are done on a case-by-case basis with factors that include the publication record, past research funding, professional honors and awards, decisive discoveries, and management experience.
Applicable department research areas include, among others, artificial intelligence, computer vision, distributed computation, high performance computing, networks, security, and software engineering.
