Topic: From UFS to GFS: The File Systems' Journey Into the Clouds

Dr. Shrideep Pallickara will be presented his research on cloud computing, the newest form of computing that works entirely in "the cloud". He also provided a look at how the progression of file system management has been able to keep up with the demand for faster speed and bigger file usage.

Topic: Exploring Google Wave

Alex Norton presented a new product by Google called Google Wave. Despite reviews, this is not a chat room. It is a dynamic program unique that is capable of group tasks. Various aspects were discussed and experimented with. This product is currently in beta invite-only testing.

Topic: Unseen Computing: Architecture and Programming

John Worley noticed how today's computing has focused on user applications and not the programs that allow such applications to run, so he gave a brief history of computers and computing, and discuss the central role of computer architecture in programming, performance, and security. John also spoke on the Intel Itanium processor, a family of microprocessors that have assembly-level parallelism.
