Extra Credit Assignment E1

Download and install one of the X-servers available for MS Windows that are listed at the X-Server site linked to at the end of our MS Windows Tools links. You do not have to purchase one. Just download one of the evaluation versions. Take notes about the URLs and the procedure you used to download and install it and get it running. Also note the difficulties you ran in to.

Make a picture of the X-server running some X-window application, such as gv viewing a postscript file, on a CS computer but displaying on your MS Windows PC. Do this with a screen capture program. Here is a link to a freeware screen capture program called WinGrab.

Turn in your typed notes in some readable form (text, Word, or LaTeX). Turn in a printout of your screen capture.

Extra Credit Assignment E2

Can you think of alternative ways of teaching Java concepts that would help you learn them faster, or in more depth? What Java topics beyond what you have studied so far do you most want to learn more about?

Use some text formatter, like Latex or Word, to type your report. Turn in a printed copy. Don't forget to use a spell checker.
