A few steps down the street and you can look to the right, to see that behind my bulding is a hill. At the end of the parking area is a stream.
At this intersection, I turn right.
Looking back to the west this is the view. My pink apartment building is there on the right. Up through that pass is France, and on further is Mont Blanc. This stream flows through Martigny and eventually flows into the Rhone, just east of Martigny. From there the Rhone flows on north into Lake Geneva.
After crossing the stream, I enter Martigny and walk past a soccer field.
Here comes the first roundabout. I pass three roundabouts, each one with a sculpture in its center.
I like to head to the right of this old church to stroll down this narrow street. Along this street are the closest grocery store, butcher and bakery to my place.
If instead, I stay on Avenue du Grand Saint Bernard, I pass some beautiful, large houses, and, of course, more banana trees. The banana trees to provide shade in the summer, but they don't bear fruit.
To the north, (my left as I am walking to work) you can see the north side of the valley, covered with vineyards. You can see how green the grass still is. The warm temperatures (50's Fahrenheit) and lack of snow is fairly unusual for this time of year. I've seen snow blowers in some yards, ready for use. There are many paths on the side of the hill that folks walk on Sundays. Pictures from my walk up the hill are coming later.
Just had to include this huge banana tree, which is right next to one of the roundabouts.
Here are a couple of views of Nate and Keith's apartment building.
Next stately house,
and the next roundabout.
Just before arriving at Place Centrale, I saw this steeple, which is also visible from the windows of our offices.
Couldn't resist this splash of color, just off of Place Centrale. The kiddo's grandparents were taking pictures. They agreed to allow me to take a picture; they were very proud of their granddaughter.
