The parameter values of neural models are often hard to determine precisely. Keith Bush is developing ways of optimizing the parameter values based on multiple recordings.

Keith used GENESIS to model developmental changes in CA1 and CA3 in rat that might account for observed characteristics of epileptiform bursting. Keith is working closely with Dr. Ed Dudek and Li-Rong Shao, in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University.

As part of his thesis work, Keith also has written an introduction to neural modeling for folks new to this field. The following technical report also appears as appendices of his thesis.

For his Masters thesis, Qing Li implemented a model using the NEURON simulation tool, of mossy fiber sprouting based on the experimental work described in Electrographic Seizures and New Recurrent Excitatory Circuits in the Dentate Gyrus of Hippocampal Slices from Kainate-Treated Epileptic Rats, The Journal of Neuroscience, July 15, 1996, 16(14):4438-4448.
