Design Studio 6. Domain Modeling - Wednesday, April 13, 2016

Pre-class work and Pre-Quiz (to be posted on Canvas) and In-class work for DS6.

The design studio pre-class work includes both team and individual portions. The design studio pre-Quiz is an individual quiz.

Pre-Quiz DUE Tuesday 12 April 2016, 11:55 PM

CREDIT: Pre-Quiz: 10 quiz points, Design Studio: 10 design studio points

Design Studio User Story: As a student in CS 314, I want to be able to understand and create domain models so that I can use them when they make sense to help develop better product solutions.

1. Students understand what a domain model is and what it can be used for.
2. Students understand how domain modeling can be used in an Agile development environment.
3. Students can create a domain model from a natural language problem description using a systematic approach.

Pre-work and Pre-Quiz User Stories:

As a student in CS 314, I want to understand:

• what Domain Modeling is so that I can decide why and when domain models are useful.
• how Domain Modeling fits into an Agile development process so that I can understand how they can be used in Agile processes.
• how to create domain models so that I can practice creating them from text descriptions of problem statements.

In-class activity User Stories:

As a student in CS 314, I want to:

• practice creating a domain model from a textual problem statement and get instructor feedback so that I can create a domain model when I need to.

 

Design Studio Pre-Class work - Do This Before Class, Quiz due Thursday night 11:55 pm

Description:

The pre-work contains background information on Domain Modeling. These are explained in the design studio pre-work file (DS6-PRE.pdf).

Tasks:

1. Complete the pre-class reading:

• Study the slides on Domain Modeling in the CS314SP2016-DomainModeling.pdf file.

2. Complete the pre-class preparation:

• Read and work through developing a domain model, as described in DS6-PRE.pdf.
• Think about how you will do the following and bring your ideas to class.
  • Develop a domain model for RamPark as described in DS6-PRE.pdf

3. Take the Domain Modeling Quiz, available in Canvas.

Grading:

1. You will receive an individual quiz grade for the pre-quiz.

Design Studio In-Class Activity - Work in your Team

TEAM WORK

Description:

You will be practicing creating a domain model for RamPark. Follow the instructions for Task 1 in DS6-InClass.pdf.

What you need to do:

1. With your team, work through Task 1, and record you work on the Results Sheet to turn in at the end of class.

2. Turn in your Results Sheet at the end of class.

Grading:

The team portion of your DS6 grade (5 points) will be based on your result sheet.
