Replication Transparency

Replication Transparency

"enables multiple instances of information objects
to be used to increase reliability and performance
        without knowledge of the replicas
    by users of application programs"
            (CoDoKi01)

This means that there may be multiple copies of files
scattered over the entire distributed system

Note: In turn, updates to files
which have many copies (or replications)
        can be a problem
especially when there is no known global state
        in a distributed system
