GECCO-99 1999 Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference July 13-17 (Tuesday-Saturday) 1999 Omni Rosen Hotel, Orlando, Florida USA http://www-illigal.ge.uiuc.edu/gecco/ gecco@aaai.org March 1, 1999 Dear Author, Thank you for submitting a paper to the GECCO-99 conference to be held on July 13-17 (Tuesday-Saturday), 1999 at the Omni Rosen Hotel in Orlando, Florida USA. We appreciate your submitting your paper for consideration by GECCO-99 as well as the efforts of the peer reviewers, policy committee members, and the track editors (Wolfgang Banzhaf, Jason Daida, Gusz Eiben, Max Garzon, Vasant Honavar, Mark Jakiela, and Rob Smith). The purpose of this note, is to provide you with rapid notification of the outcome of the reviewing process and to inform you of the steps that authors will need to take to finalize the publication of their papers. Individualized notification will follow over the next few days. Specifically, at the bottom of this message is a listing of review outcomes for each paper according to its assigned code number. Earlier, you were sent this code number by Keri Harvey at AAAI, but if you have misplaced this code, you may send an inquiry to her at gecco@aaai.org. Our apologies if you receive more than one of these messages. Alongside each code number is a single digit. A number greater than one (two or higher) indicates acceptance of a paper for (1) publication in the conference proceedings published by Morgan Kaufmann and (2) oral presentation at the conference. A "1" indicates acceptance for publication of a 1-page "poster" paper for publication in the conference proceedings book and presentation at the poster session. A "0" indicates a rejection. There will be an additional separate book distributed to conference attendees containing late-breaking papers (additional information can be obtained at the conference web site at http://www-illigal.ge.uiuc.edu/gecco/). AAAI will be sending out ELECTRONIC acceptance notification e-mail notes & author kits to the first authors of all accepted papers. Unlike prior ICGA and GP conferences, there will not be a physical author kit sent by mail. The electronic author kits will contain copies of paper reviews and electronic forms and instructions for delivery of final papers and registration at the conference. If you have any questions concerning the failure of your author kit to arrive after a reasonable amount of time, please contact gecco@aaai.org. Although the electronic author kits will contain copies of all forms and instructions, if you want to get a head start on finalizing your paper, the forms are also available on the GECCO-99 home page at http://www-illigal.ge.uiuc.edu/gecco/. This year, final papers will be delivered electronically as postscript files. The deadline for RECEIPT of the final paper at the ftp site of the Professional Book Center in Colorado is WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 1999. It is imperative that this deadline be adhered to in order to produce and distribute the proceedings on schedule. Individuals who cannot submit papers electronically will be able to submit camera-ready papers; however, there will be a substantial fee for this service. Electronic submission enables us to keep the production costs down substantially, and the extra fee is charged to make up for the additional work required at ProBook to handle a non-electronic submission. Please don't wait until the last minute. Even though submission is electronic, computer or network difficulties may cause unexpected delays, and ProBook will shut down the ftp site immediately following the deadline. This year, at least one author from each paper must register for the conference prior to the April 7th deadline. This has the benefit of securing authors the best conference rates (cheapest rates run through April 15, 1999) and insuring that someone will be present at the conference to present the paper. Registration forms may be mailed or faxed to AAAI to secure your place at the conference (and to secure your paper's place in the proceedings). Authors are reminded (as advertised in the call for papers) that "by submitting a paper, the author(s) agree that, if their paper is accepted they will submit a final revised camera-ready version and register at least one author by the deadline for camera-ready papers and that at least one author will attend and present each accepted paper at the conference." The deadline for student travel grants is March 31, 1999. The special GECCO-99 rates at the conference hotel have a deadline of June 15, 1999. If you need a letter inviting you to the conference or certifying that you have an accepted paper at the conference for visa purposes or other similar administrative matters, contact Keri Harvey at AAAI at gecco@aaai.org or GECCO-99 Conference, c/o American Association for Artificial Intelligence, 445 Burgess Drive, Menlo Park, CA 94025 USA. PHONE: 650-328-3123. FAX: 650-321-4457. The proceedings may be cited as follows: Luke, S. (1999). Genetic programming and coevolution produced competitive soccer fotbot teams for RoboCup97. In Banzhaf, W., Daida, J., Eiben, A. E., Garzon, M. H., Honavar, V., Jakiela, M., & Smith, R. E. (eds.). GECCO-99: Proceedings of the Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference, July 13-17, 1999, Orlando, Florida USA. San Francisco, CA: Morgan Kaufmann. GECCO-99's policy (like that of many other conferences) is that an identical or substantially similar paper can be published by both GECCO-99 and a second conference only if the second conference does not have a significant overlap in subject matter, attendance, and readership within the evolutionary computation community (e.g., GP, ICEC, ICES, ICGA, EP, FOGA, PPSN, and AAAI) and, of course, the second conference permits this. Note that GECCO-99's policy is that a paper may be published by another conference OUTSIDE the evolutionary computation field (e.g., a conference in a specialized application area to which the paper is also relevant) provided only that it carries a different title. Also, GECCO-99's policy is that a paper may be published subsequently in a journal. Thanks again to all for their efforts on behalf of GECCO-99. Wolfgang Banzhaf GECCO-99 Editor-in-Chief and David E. Goldberg GECCO-99 General Chair *********** GECCO-99 Paper Decisions The paper codes and decisions are included below according to the track categories. Please refer to the paper code you were given in the message that was sent to you confirming your paper was received at AAAI. The number to the right of your paper code is the page limit you are allowed in the GECCO-99 Proceedings. Good Luck!
