Darrell Whitley received a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Southern Illinois University in 1985 and completed his M.S. degree in Computer Science in 1986. He joined the Computer Science Department at Colorado State University in 1986.
He has been a Professor in the Computer Science Department at Colorado State University since August 1997. His areas of interest are artificial intelligence, genetic algorithms, heuristic search, neural networks and scheduling.
Dr. Whitley currently serves on the Governing Board of the International Society for Genetic Algorithms, which he Chaired from 1993 to 1997. He now serves as Editor-in-Chief for the journal Evolutionary Computation. He is an advisory editor for the Journal of Heuristics and on the editorial board of the Journal on Scheduling.
