"Couldn't we do this easier?" -- Yes, well kind of, we usually do this in PHP code on our server so we have to know MySQL to write some of these commands

https://xkcd.com/327/ I'm sure most of us has seen this from xkcd and the loveliness of drop table. It is funny, but it would be terrible if it happened. In lecture we were talking about how devastating it can be if a user could drop tables. It can also be done with SQL injection! Remember to sanitize user inputs.
