CS 670: Special Topics in Architecture/Systems {Distributed Systems}

[Fall 2009]

Course Objectives

The objective of this course is to understand the broad range of issues that underlie large-scale distributed systems. This course will cover the following broad areas:

  • Evolutionary forces that fuel the growth of  large-scale distributed systems.

  • Computational economics in distributed computing

  • Storage and fault tolerance in large scale systems

  • Virtualization techniques and strategies

  • Programming models for cloud computing
    (a) Map Reduce (b) Data flow graphs

  • Data structures for large scale computing
