Microsoft Teams will be used for CS270 communication

- COVID-19
- All students should fill out a student-specific symptom checker each day before coming to class https://covidrecovery.colostate.edu/daily-symptom-checker. In addition, please utilize the symptom checker to report symptoms, if you have a positive test, or exposed to a known COVID contact. If you know or believe your have been exposed or are symptomatic, it is important for the health of yourself and others that you report it through this checker. You will not be in trouble or penalized in any way for reporting. If you report symptoms or a positive test, you will receive immediate instructions on what to do and CSU’s Public Health Office will be notified. Once notified, that office will contact you and most likely conduct contact tracing, initiate any necessary public health requirements and/or recommendations and notify you if you need to take any steps. - Lectures
- Lecture videos will be available in the Teams channel coresponding to the current week.
- Since Phil Sharp and Jack Applin are teaching the class this semester two sets of lecture videos will be available.
- Book
- The book Introduction to Computing Systems by Patt and Patel is required for this class in edition 2 or 3. Edition 2 can be found cheaply online and is usually available for free as a PDF with a little searching.
- Some content for quiz questions will only be covered by the readings.
- Assignments
- Assignments will be due on Saturday nights at 11:59pm.
- Assignments will be intorduced with a video posted in Teams
- Assignments will have a two day late period for 20% off.
- Some assignments are challenging and will require significant effort. (start early!)
- Assignments will be submitted through the Checkin tab in the CS270 website.
- Your lowest assignment score will be dropped.
- Worth 25% of final grade.
- Recitations
- Recitations will be on Wednesday and Friday
- Recitations will be available inperson at their scheduled time.
- Recitations will also have video introductions in Teams and can be completed remotely if you choose.
- Due at 11:59pm the day they are assigned and have a one day late period for 20% off.
- Cover a simpler version of the homework assignment which should be helpful to prepare you for the assignment.
- Your lowest two recitation scores will be dropped.
- 15% of final grade.
- Weekly quizzes
- There will be one quiz due per week.
- Cover content found in the book and in lecture.
- These quizzes will be due at 11:59pm on the Monday after the week the material is covered.
- All weekly quizzes will have 5 attempts.
- Weekly quizzes will have a two day late period for 20% off.
- Your lowest two quizz scores will be dropped.
- 12% of final grade.
- Exams
- There will be three exams for the class.
- All exams will be completed in the Respondus lockdown browser.
- You will need a webcam for the exams.
- You will be able to take an exam anytime during the day of the exam
- 16% of final grade each for a total of 48%.
- General
- Links to all lecture slides, assignments recitations and due dates can be found in the schedule on the 270 web page.
- All assignments and recitations for the week will be available starting on Sunday and due when specified on the schedule.
- Students and TAs can share their screens through Teams to work through questions.
- Students can post questions in Teams that can be answered by other students, or the TAs.

Grading
The course requires demonstration of a student’s grasp of the concepts on evaluations. Here is the grading scheme:

- Assignments will be done individually. As required by the department, we will check for collaboration using a software tool, so do your own work!
- Recitations participation is strongly encouraged. Part of the class grade comes from successfully finishing the assigned lab work.
- Quizzes will be done individually on Canvas as homework.
Letter Grade Points A ≥90% B ≥80% C ≥70% D ≥60% F <60%
