I am a Professor in the Computer Science Department at Colorado State University.   My research interests are in the area of Big Data for the sciences with an emphasis on issues related to predictive analytics, geospatial deep learning, storage, retrievals, and metadata management. I was the inagural Jack Cockran Family Professor, 20I8 -2021. I am an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems and an Editor of the Future Generation Computer Systems, Elsevier. Also, I served on the editorial board of the Journal of Big Data, Springer, 2013-2023. My research is funded through grants from the National Science Foundation, National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Department of Homeland Security, the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), the Environmental Defense Fund, Google, Amazon, and HP. I am a recepient of the CAREER award from the National Science Foundation and the IEEE TCSC Award for Excellence in Scalable Computing (Mid-Career).

My ongoing research is funded through the US National Science Foundation's Artificial Intelligence Institutes, Cyberinfrastructure for Sustained Scientific Innovation, and the CyberPhysical Systems programs.
